     Army Reserve Spec. Samuel J. Kleiner has returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., after being deployed to Afghanistan serving in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
     Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners.  Reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been mobilized, activated and deployed along with active duty members to support the war against global terrorism.  Mission objectives encompass combating the international terrorist network or regime forces outside the borders of the United States.  U.S. troops serve in South and Southwest Asia, Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.
     Kleiner, a military policeman with the 307th Military Police Company, New Kensington, has served three years in the military.
     He is the son of Merritt Crosby of Hawthorne Road, Bradford.

Army Pvt. Shane A. Whitney has graduated from the Fire Support Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.  The field artillery specialists serve in intelligence activities including target processing in field artillery, cannon battalions, division artillery, artillery and maneuver brigade and headquarters and fire support elements.
     The course is designed to train students to establish, maintain, and operate radio and wire communications and speech security equipment, including encoding and decoding messages.  They also must prepare and maintain daily staff journals, fire support situation maps, charts and other fire support and target processing procedures, records, and documents.  In addition, students assist in initiating requests for field artillery, mortar, naval gunfire, and aerial delivered munitions, and emplace, maintain, and assist in the operation of laser range finders, target designation, and night observation devices.
     Whitney is the son of Kimberly S. and Donald H. Whitney of U.S. Route 6 West, Roulette.
     He is a 2011 graduate of Port Allegany High School.

Army Pvt. Joshua Paone has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
 During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.     Paone is the son of Donna and David Paone of North Sixth Street, Olean.     He is a 2010 graduate of Olean High School.

Air Force Reserve Senior Master Sgt. Leroy Cyr has retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve after 33 years of honorable service.
     Cyr was the superintendent of air freight assigned to the 2nd Aerial Port Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, Calif. 
     He is the son of Louis and Gisele Cyr of North 12th Street, Olean, N.Y.
     His wife, Teresa, is the daughter of Erma Marshall of Shoemaker Road, Hoopa, Calif.
     Cyr graduated in 1979 from Archbishop Walsh High School, Olean, and received a bachelor's degree in 1990 from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Army Spec. Adam R. Turner has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

     He is a 2010 graduate of Ten Broeck Academy, Franklinville.  Army National Guard Pvt. Jeffrey D. Nagle has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo., which included basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT).
     During basic military training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons qualification, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army doctrine, history, principles and traditions.
     During AIT, the soldier completed the military police specialist course to acquire skills to provide combat area support, conduct battlefield circulation control, area security, prisoner of war operations, civilian internee operations, and law and order operations.  The trainee performed as a team member in support of battlefield operations, installation law and order operations and security of Army resources and installations.  Additional training included providing peacetime support to the military community through security of resources, crime prevention programs, and preservation of law and order.
     Nagle is the son of Jeffrey and Susan Nagle of Route 242, Little Valley.
     He is a 2011 graduate of Randolph Central School.

   Department of the Air Force Civilian Jude K. Meyer has been named the Air Moblity Command George F. Ruestow Logistics Readiness Senior Civilian Manager of the Year.
     Selection was based on the individual's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork, significant self-improvement, personal achievements, notable accomplishments, and community service and support.
     Meyer is a logistics manager assigned to the 628th Air Base Wing at Joint Base Charleston, S.C.  He has worked in federal service for eight years. 
     He is the son of Leander Meyer of Center Street, St. Marys.
     His wife, Amy, is the daughter of Carl and Janet Dippold of Wilson Road, St. Marys.
     Meyer graduated in 1978 from Elk County Christian High School, St. Marys, and received a bachelor of arts in 1978 from the University of Pittsburgh. He also earned a master of science in 2010 from Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.
