Coudersport volunteer firefighters were busy over the weekend beginning with a house fire Friday afternoon a little before 3:00 pm Friday. Then on Saturday after a torrential downpour suddenly dumped three inches or more of rain in some locations, the department responded to flooding Haollo in Sweden Townshp. Within minutes of arriving at the fire, Chief Bryan Phelps requested a second alarm which brought in Port Allegany, Roulette, Austin and Galeton departments. All residents of the house got out safely before first responders arrived. After a joint investigation with the PA State Fire Marshalls Office determined the cause to be accidental/Electrical. There were no injuries of FF’s or civilians. Cost estimate of damaged in excess of $25, 000 and was insured and owned by AJ Kightlinger. The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family. East Second Street was closed to traffic for awhile. Some 24 hours later, the local department was summoned to help with flooding, washouts and slides along the North Hollow and Brookland Roads in Sweden township.
A Brockport man has been arrested for making terroristic threats. State police at Ridgway claim 30 year old Jacob Anna punched a 22 year old woman in the face causing a lip laceration Sunday night and then allegedly retrieved an AK47 and thirteen 30 round magazines while threatening the victim and police who might respond. He then left the Boggy Run residence on foot but was taken into custody a short time later.
State police at Coudersport have arrested 39 year old Teri Mills of Ulysses on a host of charges including terroristic threats for incidents allegedly taking place on the afternoon of June 30. After a verbal dispute earlier in the day, Mills allegedly intentionally rammed a parked car in Genesee Township then allegedly entered a residence on Center Street Ulysses with the intention of vandalizing the house. Three children were in the upstairs of the house at the time. Mills then is accused of driving to White Knoll Road in Ulysses Township where she got involved in another dispute . Prior to leaving that residence, Mills allegedly intentionally rammed another parked vehicle. Troopers found Mills in the driver’s seat impaired. A field sobriety test was conducted and she was taken to UPMC Cole for a blood draw, Her arrest is pending those results. Mills is also charged with DUI. Careless drovomg amd reckless driving, burglary, criminal trespass, endangering another person, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.
Both Austin residents involved in a domestic violence incident last Tuesday morning ; are facing harassment charges in Districit Court. Coudersport based state police Cassidy Main and Clay Boucher, both 19 years olde are being charged in District Court.
The theft of some equipment from a drilling site on Blake Road in Covington Township last Wednesday is being probed by state police at Mansfield .A Terex Light tower, valued at $1!3,000 was stolen from a well pad last Wednesday evening.
Unknown thieves broke into a storage shed on the N.Williamson Road between May 1 and June 14, 2019 and stole various household goods valued at $100 belonging to a 60 year old Blossburg woman.
A theft occurring last Tuesday or Wednesday in Hebron Township is being investigated by troopers at the .A red fire extinguisher four orange timber wedges and two black rubber bungee cords valued at a total of$100 were taken from a logging site on Baker Cree Road.
Lewis Run state police responded to a burglar alarm at a on Clay Street in Kane early Sunday morning. Two window panes in the back of the building were smashed. Witnesses told police they saw two unknown males fleeing on foot just after the alarm went off. However, despite a neighborhood canvas, no suspects were found.
Minor injuries were reported for two passengers in one vehicle after a collision Thursday afternoon on South Avenue in Lewis Run. According to state police there,. Jared Atwood of Niagara Falls, tired to make a right turn while headed south on Route 219 and did not yield to oncoming traffic. His Toyota Camry collided head on with a 2019 Jeep Cherokee driven by Timothy Baranak of Clarence, PA. His wife, Glendy-Meguiso and an infant were taken to Bradford Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. No one was hurt in the Baranak car. All adults were using seatbelts and the infant was in a child safety seat.
Both drivers escaped injury in a rear-end collision last Friday afternoon in Norwich Township, McKean County. Police said the accident occurred when Steven McHenry of Pittsburgh failed to stop his Dodge Ram for a Toyota Tundra driven by Kylene Lathrop-Paffie whch had stopped to make a right turn off of Route 219. McHenry was cited for following too closely.
An 18 year Coudersport driver escaped injury early this morning in Fox Township, Elk County. Kullen Crosby was going west on Skyline Drive when his Chevrolet Cruz went out of control while making a right hand curve, struck a utility pole and rolled over onto its side.
DUI charges are pending against 54 year old Dennis Berg of Eldred after he was stopped by patrol officers just before 7:00 pm July 4 on Kings Run Road in Ceres Township for signs of impairment.
Recognizing the sacrifices made by Vietnam veterans in McKean County, Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) announces a new law that will designate a bridge in their honor.the law, the bridge on Kushequa Avenue (State Route 3009) over the Kinzua Creek in Hamlin Township is designated the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge.
It is important we remember the men and women who fought in Vietnam, not just for our country but for the cause of Democracy around the world,” Causer said. “They all served with honor, and far too many gave their lives for us. We are blessed by their service and sacrifice.”
At the request of area veterans groups and local officials, Causer proposed the legislation, House Bill 1237, to name the bridge earlier this year. The proposal was amended into another bill, Senate Bill 117, which was signed into law by the governor last week.
the law will take effect in 60 days. It is the responsibility of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to install and maintain signs marking the designation on both ends of the bridge.
Josef WAHLIG, 85, of Ulysses, PA, formerly of Skippack, died Wednesday, July 3, 2019 in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, PA. Born February 10, 1934, in Lorsch, Germany, he was the son of Johannes and Cecilia Engelhardt Wahlig. On February 10, 1958, at Ft. Riley, KS, he married the former Maria Schwalek, who predeceased him on July 1, 2015. A US Army Veteran, he served honorably from 1957 – 1958. He was employed as a tool and die maker by Jade Corp., Huntingdon Valley. Josef was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Genesee. Surviving are: five children, Josef H. (Brenda) Wahlig, Daniel Wahlig, Leonard (Margie) Wahlig, Paul Wahlig, and Heidi (Christopher) Murray; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Franz Wahlig of Lorsch, Germany; nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Cecilia Wahlig; and three brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Monday, July 8, 2019 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Genesee, PA. The Rev. Joseph V. Dougherty will be the Celebrant.
