PA Route 5 Alliance seeking nominations for “Do Route 6” ….Galeton man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting young girl….$8000 worth of hand tools stolen from elderly Tioga County man’s garage…Lock Haven driver’s SUV wrecks on Wycoff Run Road….A couple of area residents arrested for drug possession…

A couple of inches of new snow overnight caused a two hour school delay this morning.  Penn Dot crews began working at midnight but reported many roads were snow and/or slush covered for the morning commute.

The PA Route 6 Alliance wants to recognize six innovators, movers, and initiatives along the Heritage Corridor that made a difference in 2019 and is now taking nominations for the “Do 6” Awards to be presented at the Annual Meeting in May.The awards are presented to individuals, businesses or organizations that have undertaken outstanding efforts that give new meaning to “DO 6” by supporting and implementing sustainable tourism development along the PA Route 6 Heritage Corridor. The award winners exemplify the mission of the PA Route 6 Alliance to protect, preserve and promote the scenic, cultural, historical and recreational resources in the northern tier.The awards are presented in the areas of Heritage Partnerships, Leadership, Heritage Community of the Year, Heritage Tourism (projects or events), Artisan of the Year and Lifetime Achievement.Last year’s award winners included the Good Growing Gardens, Smethport (Heritage Partnership Award); Honesdale Roots & Rhythm Music and Arts Festival, Inc., Honesdale (Heritage Tourism Award); Tina Pickett, PA State Representative, 110th Legislative District (Heritage Leadership Award); Kane Borough, McKean County (Heritage Community of the Year Award); Stained Glass Reflections, Wellsboro, Tioga County (Artisan of the Year Award); and Randy Heller, Solid Waste Director/Recycling Coordinator, Wayne County (Lifetime Achievement Award).Nominations can be submitted by anyone along the PA Route 6 Corridor and are due by Friday, March 13, 2020. A 58 year old Galeton  man has been jailed in lieu of $200,000 bail after being arraigned for allegedly sexually assaulting a young girl on West Street between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2018. John  McCullough has been charged with numerous felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse; involuntary sexual intercourse with a child; unlawful contact with a minor; aggravated indecent assault; corruption of minors and two counts of misdemeanor indecent assault.

State police at Lewis Run have arrested a couple of area residents for drug possession. A 60 year old arrested a 60 year old Olean woman (no name released) after stopping her on Route 446 near Digel Hollow in Keating Township after initiating a traffic stop. Police claim they found she was driving under in the influence and had a small amount of marijuana.

Susan Schimp, 60, of Smethport was arrested on drug possession charges after troopers, responding to a tip to 2961 Bordell Road on the afternoon of January 20, for a possible Megan’s law violation allegedly found a small amount of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

A 38 year old Smethport woman has been arrested for furnishing an electronic cigarette to a 14 year old Shinglehouse boy last Tuesday morning on the Bells Run Road.  The suspect’s name also was not released.

Troopers at the Mansfield barracks are probing a theft occurring sometime between last Tuesday and Thursday at 811 E. Main Street, Westfield. Thieves  stole about $8,000 worth of hand tools by entering  through the back door of a garage owned by 89 year old Carl Burrous.

A theft at a Port Allegany area home is being investigated by state police at Lewis Run. Someone entered the home of Cassie Bell at 125 North Brooklynside Road  between 9:00 am and 1:30 pm last Tuesday, February 4, 2020. Police did not reveal what, if anything was stolen.

No injuries were reported for a  Lock Haven resident whose vehicle went off of Wycoff Run Road after hitting a patch and snow of ice Friday morning . Police have charged Ryan Rothrock for speeding prior to the crash.
