The results of yesterday’s Municipal Election in Pennsylvania are in. Voters gave overwhelming support to a constitutional question about victim’s rights by a margin of 73.87% to 26.13% even though the state supreme court had ruled Monday night that the vote would be invalid. The votes for  county commissioner here in Potter County were (R) Paul Heimel, 3257; (R) Nancy Grupp and (D) Barry Hayman, 1463. President Judge Stephen Minor easily won a retention vote for another 10 year term with more than 82% of the vote.

The McKean County Commissioner winners were  (R) Thomas Kreiner, (R) Carol Duffy and (D) Clifford Lane. District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer was re-elected.

The victorious commissioner candidates in Tioga County were (R) Mark Hamilton, (R) Erik Coolidge and (D) Carolyn Ruth.

(R) Joe Daghir, (R) M. Fritz Lecher and (D) Matthew Quesenberry  won the Elk County Commissioners’ race.

Newcomers James Moate and Ann Losey will join top vote getter in Cameron County Lori Reed as the new board of commissioners. Phil Jones, a long time commissioner lost his re-reelection bid.

McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that, following a two day jury trial  November 1 and November 4, 2019, Eric Michael Fuller, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Smethport, was convicted of Statutory Sexual Assault – Felony 1; Sexual Assault – Felony 2; Indecent Assault (victim less than 13 years of age) – Felony 3; Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Felony 3; Corruption of a Minor – Misdemeanor 1; and Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse with a Child – Felony 1.  The case related to the defendant’s actions toward a minor child in the Borough of Smethport in 2018.  The  case was investigated by Officer Shayne Miller of the Smethport Borough Police Department.  Ashley Shade, Assistant District Attorney, prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth.

A Rochester, NY man has been cited for being an unlicensed driver a one-vehicle crash  last Thursday night on Route 15 in Tioga Township, Tioga  County. Troopers said Benjamin Giesy was going north when his Honda Accord went off the road and when Giesy tried to regain control, the car spun around and hit a section of guardrails. Giesy was using a seatbelt and was not hurt.

The driver of  a Honda Odyssey escaped injury in a car/deer collision late last night on Route 6 in Charleston Township. The car was going west at the time and traveled for about 1,000 feet before stopping.  Since there was no property damage or injuries, the accident is considered a “non-reportable”  so the driver’s name was not released.
