Potter County’s Habitat For Humanity’s Outdoor Show this past Friday and Saturday in Coudersport was a huge success. The weather was perfect (especially on Saturday), there were vendors,  including festival foods) demonstrations and a parade

A Tioga County driver died in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning in Jackson Township, Tioga County. State police at Mansfield report 31 year old Dennis Gee was gong west on Route 328 at around 5:00 a,m when his vehicle went off the road, hit an embankment and rolled over several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An elderly Shinglehouse man was hurt in a hone-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Route 44 in Hebron Township. Coudersport based state police say 73 year old John Parker was going north when he fell asleep at the wheel causing his Ford Focus to go off the road, collide with four fence posts, roll over and knock down a utility pole. Parker was helped out of the wreckage by a passerby. He was taken by ambulance to UPMC Cole for treatment of minor injuries.

Neither driver was hurt on a collision Sunday afternoon in Highland Township, Elk County. According to state police at Ridgway, the collision occurred when Pamela Root of Berlin Center, Ohio began to make a left turn onto Route 948 without giving a safe distance and her Ford F350 hit a Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Brian Slaughenhaupt of Shippenville. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

State police at Lewis Run did not release the name of a driver who is facing DUI charges in connection yo  a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on The Olean Road in Otto Township. The suspect was driving a  2002 Ford F250 Supercab.

A Mansfield resident who was reported missing from his home Thursday was found deceased in Richmond Township. Police say there is no indication of foul play in the death of 46 year old Shane Clark.

A charge of  physical harassment has been filed against a Mt. Jewett man for an assault allegedly taking place  this past May 17 at 2310 Sartwell Creek Road in Pleasant Valley Township, Potter County. Coudersport based state police allege 52 year old Danny Kinney assaulted 48 yearold Robin Engl-Taylor during an argument.

Perry Green .31. of Roulette has also been charged with physical harassment for a domestic violence disturbance on Pine Lane in Roulete on the afternoon of September 19. The victim is listed as  30 yar old woman.

State police at Lewis Run arrested 23 year old Blake Kaple of Eldred for physical harassment claiming he put a hold on a 44 year old Eldred woman and pulled her out of her wheelchair early Friday morning.

A burglary at a home on Route 646 in Gifford Friday night remains under investigation by state police at Lewis Run. The victims are listed as a 40 year old man, a 40 yer old woman and a 16 year old boy.

A criminal mischief on West Main Street in Hamilton Township, McKean County is also being probed by state police at Lewis Run. Vandals cut a tire on a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer owned by a 20 year old Ludlow rman.


Jo Ann Chismire Zautzik, 72, of Rome, Italy, formerly of Coudersport, Pa. and Port Allegany, Pa., passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019, in Capena, Italy, after a long illness. Born on January 9, 1947 in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Carl Clifford and Lillie Pearl Sparks Chismire.  On June 6, 1979 in Rome, she married Emerico A. Zautzik, who survives.  On December 1, 1985, her son Giuliano Zautzik, was born.

Jo Ann spent her early childhood in Coudersport. Her family then moved to Port Allegany, where she graduated from Port Allegany High School in 1964.  She also graduated from the former Olean Business Institute in 1965.  Jo Ann then moved to California for a year, returning to live in Rochester, N.Y., where she held various secretarial positions.  During this time she resumed her studies and in 1972 obtained an Associate’s Degree from Monroe Community College.

She was hired by the University of Rochester, where she worked in the International Student Office and continued to study toward a Bachelor’s Degree.  In her position, Jo Ann met her future husband, a U of R student from Italy.  They became engaged in 1977.  In 1979 she obtained her degree, got married and settled with her husband in Rome, Italy.  She taught English in the Italian public school system and in other institutions, including the Italian Army School of Languages.  After obtaining a Master’s Degree from Framingham State College in 1998, she taught in Tor Vergata University of Rome.  She retired in 2012 and was able to devote herself to her favorite hobby, quilting.

Through the years, Jo Ann regularly came back to the hills of Pennsylvania to visit family and friends. She attended her 50th class reunion in Port Allegany in 2014.

As her health deteriorated, in 2016 Jo Ann retired to a nursing home in Capena, Italy, where she was regularly visited by family and friends until she passed away.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her son, Giuliano, of Milan, Italy; two sisters, Cindy Chismire-Kurjakovic of Olean, N.Y. and Susan (Max III) Greeley of Roulette; and several nieces and nephews.

Jo Ann was predeceased by her parents.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside burial service at 1 pm on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, in St. Eulalia Catholic Cemetery, Coudersport.  The Rev. James Campbell, pastor of St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.Jo Ann’s family has entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L.
