McKean County DA issues statement about 9/ll….Mansfield state police probe $17,000 bad check and theft of a gun…..Troopers at Lewis Run allegedly find drugs in stopped car…….

Each year on the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, we are reminded of the sacrifices made by extraordinary citizens.

Nearly 3,000 firefighters, law enforcement officers, military personnel, other first responders and innocent civilians perished inside the buildings, on the ground below, and inside the planes at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The number of casualties continues to rise as the illnesses caused when those who survived the initial attacks died years later from breathing the air that contained a toxic mixture of fuel and building materials.

Some of the victims were civilian workers, people on the street, and people on airplanes headed for a destination.

Others were firefighters, law enforcement officers, military personnel and other first responders who entered the area searching for survivors.  Out-of-area first responders poured into the areas to provide assistance – a symbol of their devotion and patriotism.

On behalf of the District Attorney’s Office, we express our gratitude to our local firefighters, law enforcement officers, members of the military and other first responders for their readiness to respond to tragedy while putting their lives in peril; and we express our gratitude and our vow to remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives that were lost on that day.

State police at Mansfield are following up on a $17,000 theft taking place between May 24 and July 10. A known suspect allegedly wrote a worthless check for that amount to AJ’s Outdoor Power Equipment in Mansfield for a 2019 Commander XT 1000R.

The theft of a gun from a ome on Route 6 in Sullivan Township is also being investigated by troopers at the Mansfield barracks. lA Savage Arms Stevens model 95 Single Shot 20 gauge gun owned by Jesse VanSkiver was stolen between 8:30 and 9:30 pm on last Thursday. The gun is valued at $150 and anyone who has information is encouraged to contact state police at 570.662.2151.
