The Shinglehouse Fire Department’s Annual Summer Fest was a huge success despite a couple of thunderstorms packing torrential downpours. The fest was complete with antique cars, a performance by the Shinglehouse Community Choir, vintage tractors and a tribute to home town baseball great Fielder Jones. Of course there was plenty of carnival food to enjoy. The band, “Generations” provided pop oldies in the park. The day concluded with a spectacular fireworks display by Youngs.

A Smethport man has been arrested for violating a protection from abuse order between June 13 and 28 on Route 6in Keating Township, near Smethport. Chad Reed, 27 was committed to the McKean County Jail in lieu of $5,000 secured bail after  being arraigned before a district judge.

An Addison, NY man is being sought for receiving stolen property after eluding police and escaping from a hospital. Troopers at Mansfield were pursuing a 2006 Ford F-150 XLT near the intersection of Boom Station Road and Route  49  Saturday afternoon when 30year old Kaleb Heidrick at a high rate of speed when the pickup hit some guardrails on New York State Route 85 just south of the Blend Road. Heidrick was flown by helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre but fled  before being discharged after being treated for his injuries.

State police at Emporium are investigating an incident allegedly in Potter County last Thursday afternoon or evening.  A complainant told police a 6 year old St.Marys girl was endangered on the West Branch of Fishing Creek Road occurring near Clara Township. Authorities did not explain why Emporium based state police are investigating an crime allegedly involving an Elk County child in Potter County.

Lewis Run state police are investigating a criminal mischief taking place just before 6 o’clock Friday morning on Division Street in Mt. Jewett. The side of a house occupied by three male victims from Mt. Jewett ages 57, 30 and 16 and a 50 year old woman from Irving, NY  had been spray painted. On Thursday afternoon troopers responded to a verbal argument at that same location where the female victim and the 30 year old and 57 year old men were listed as both victims and were arrested for disorderly conduct along with two more Mt. Jewett men, ages 25 and 28. When troopers arrived they separated the parties who had been exchanging profanities and caused a disturbance in the neighborhood around 5:30 pm.

An Emporium motorcyclist was slight hurt Friday afternoon in an accident on the Bucktail Trail in Gibson Township, Cameron County. According to state police, Lynn Miller was going east when his Harley Davidson Electra failed to make a sharp left curve and went down on its side, skidding for a few feet before colliding with a section of guardrail before stopping. Miller did not require medical attention for his injuries.

Troopers at the Lewis Run barracks are looking investigating a theft taking place early between last Friday afternoon and 6:30 am Saturday morning on the Old Smethport Road in Wetmore Township. Burglars entered the front door of a PennDot shed and stole approximately $1200 in US currency.

Thieves took  various diabetic prescriptions, a bear rug,  mounted bear head, an 8 inch bone knife, 200 piece Craftsman tool set, cordless drill and circular saw and about $20 in bills and change from a camp on Newell Creek Road in Annin Township owned by a St. Marys couple over the past month. Value of the stolen items is estimated at $2155 and damage to the window on an outside door is said to be $300.

A 75 year old Smethport woman told state police at Lewis Run that a change purse holding about $80 and a card holder were taken out of her purse sometime last Friday from Route 446 in Eldred Township.

Troopers are also looking for a man who walked through a front door into  a residence on E. Main Street in Mt. Jewett just after 1:00 pm Sunday. The intruder was described as being a white male, about 5’10” had dark hair and was wearing a hat. Apparently when he realized the house was occupied, he turned and left.

An attempted burglary at a Smethport area residence is being investigated by state police at Lewis Run. Someone tried to enter a house on Route 46 just before 6Pm Saturday by forcing open a sliding glass door and breaking the lock. The victims are listed as a 87 year old Millerton woman, a  53 year old Smethport man and a 52 year old Smethport woman.
