This is the third year District 2 has held the competition, branching out this year to all nine counties it serves. The sixteen participating high schools are DuBois, DuBois Central, Harmony, and Clearfield in Clearfield County, Elk County Catholic in Elk County, Smethport in McKean County, Galeton, Coudersport, and Austin in Potter County, Central Mountain in Clinton County, Bellefonte, St Joseph’s Academy, and Penns Valley in Centre County, Mifflin in Mifflin County, and Juniata and East Juniata in Juniata County. OLfficials say the students should be recognized for their work.
All but one of the plows will be mounted to a plow truck in the area of the respective school for the upcoming winter season. The plow from Central Mountain High School will remain on display in front of Clinton County’s PennDOT Maintenance Office. This year’s theme follows the 511PA slogan of “Know before you go”, with winter driving safety at the forefront of the art work. Speaking of PennDot…a Wilcox Clermont Road (Route 2001) bridge, spanning Seven Mile Run in Sergeant Township, McKean County has been replaced and is now open to traffic. The bridge was replaced y as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement work was performed by Robert J. Cummins d/b/a Bob Cummins Construction Company of Bradford, PA.
The new crossing is longer and wider than the one it replaced and is designed with a 100-year lifespan.
This bridge is referred to as JV-71 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.
The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which PWKP will finance, design, replace, and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impacts on motorists.
